{"id":2232,"date":"2012-07-20T13:09:33","date_gmt":"2012-07-20T17:09:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lifewithhappiness.com\/?p=2232"},"modified":"2018-10-02T15:43:42","modified_gmt":"2018-10-02T19:43:42","slug":"summer-reading-because-you-asked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theexecutivehappinesscoach.com\/2012\/07\/summer-reading-because-you-asked\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Reading &#8211; because you asked"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"remember to thank all the books you haven't read over the past three years\" src=\"https:\/\/theexecutivehappinesscoach.com\/files\/2012\/07\/3287986172_f7f153f5be.png\" alt=\"remember to thank all the books you haven't read over the past three years\" \/><small> Natalia Osiatynska via <a title=\"Compfight\" href=\"http:\/\/www.compfight.com\/\">Compfight<\/a><\/small><br \/>\n<small><\/small>In the wake of my July newsletter, I had a short flurry of emails from people asking, &#8220;did I miss your summer reading list, Jim?&#8221;<br \/>\nUhm&#8230; no.<br \/>\nTruth is, I stopped doing a list this year. \u00a0There are just SOOOOO many others offering reading lists, good stuff, and it\u2019s a lot of work to compile something that is no longer unique.<br \/>\nI put substantial work in the prior 12 years of lists, and there&#8217;s still much there in the way of great reading. \u00a0I\u2019ve referred a couple other people to my past three years worth of lists, which are still archived on my website. \u00a0LOTS of great stuff there to explore if you\u2019ve not yet read it all. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theexecutivehappinesscoach.com\/resources\/summer-reading-list\/\">https:\/\/theexecutivehappinesscoach.com\/resources\/2011_Books.cfm<\/a><br \/>\nHere&#8217;s where I am right now, if you want to know: \u00a0I\u2019ve been back on a young adult fiction kick, along with more happiness and psych titles.<br \/>\nMy top pick for this year would have been <strong>Ship Breaker, by Paolo Bacigalupi<\/strong>. \u00a0It\u2019s a multi-award winning YA novel. \u00a0What brought it to my attention was that the local high school where I still do retreats (even tho&#8217; all my kids graduated years ago) made it an All School reading &#8212; across all four grades &#8212; last year, and it seemed to generate great discussion in multiple areas &#8212; social studies, psych, science, etc. \u00a0I enjoyed both the story and the moral issues it raised.<br \/>\nMy fave biz book of the past year was<strong> The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg<\/strong>. \u00a0It was not new to me, but when I read it it was like I was in the choir while he preached\u2026 reminding us that when it comes to change, it\u2019s all about practice, practice, practice!<br \/>\nEnjoy your summer reading!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the wake of my July newsletter, I had a short flurry of emails from people asking, &#8220;did I miss your summer reading list, Jim?&#8221;  Uhm&#8230; no.
