{"id":2886,"date":"2013-06-26T19:37:02","date_gmt":"2013-06-26T19:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theexecutivehappinesscoach.com\/?p=2886"},"modified":"2018-10-02T13:36:43","modified_gmt":"2018-10-02T17:36:43","slug":"rapid-communication-is-the-most-powerful-tool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theexecutivehappinesscoach.com\/2013\/06\/rapid-communication-is-the-most-powerful-tool\/","title":{"rendered":"Rapid Communication is the Most Powerful tool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a title=\"sms\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/83183993@N00\/465394708\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"sms\" alt=\"sms\" src=\"https:\/\/theexecutivehappinesscoach.com\/files\/2013\/06\/465394708_7c9ff1d827.jpg\" \/><\/a>When I was a young supervisor fresh from college I was thrown into a turbulent division experiencing 400% growth.<\/strong> The lead underwriter took me under her wing and taught me valuable lessons for dealing with that kind of chaos.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cNever leave a problem file sitting on your desk over a weekend,\u201d<\/strong> Jackie taught me. \u201cProblems multiply in the dark like rabbits, and on Monday you\u2019ll have a lot more of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>It took me a few more years to learn that rapid communication was the most powerful tool for managing those magically multiplying rabbits.<\/strong> When every day brings a new wave of issues, you can\u2019t let anything sit for long, else you suddenly have a much bigger problem.<\/p>\n<p>And that was in 1980. Three years later I had my first \u201cportable\u201d computer (it weighed 30 pounds, but I could take it home!) and life\u2019s only gotten exponentially faster since then. <strong>Today, the rabbits have mobile devices and trackers, social media, and Google Earth as tools for finding the most succulent lettuces.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The best solution has not changed, though \u2013 it remains rapid communication.<\/strong> The faster you close a loop, share information, move something to the next step, or address systemic flaws, the fewer problems you ultimately have to deal with.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And it\u2019s still true that you shouldn\u2019t leave a problem file on your desk overnight. In the dark.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #520e83;font-weight: bold;text-align: left\">Create Connections. Lead Well.
