Do You Have the Courage to Think Bigger?

“#15-What we need in the world are more Leaders who are big enough to have the Big Conversations. Think about it. . .”

Excerpt From: Jim Smith. “Leadership is so Tweet.”

Courage and Fear

One of my favorite writers, Seth Godin, continually asks, “What’s getting in your way? What’s stopping you from being great? Why are you not playing a much bigger game?”
Then he answers the question: “You.”
Yes, You. Me. We. We are programmed for risk aversion. I fear what happens if nobody likes my idea. You worry that you will make a mistake. We collectively play it safe, and safe often keeps us playing small.
The thing is, to get anywhere in life, you have to take some risks. You have to apply for that promotion, learn a new skill, make a technology leap, try something new. And New is Scary. Bigger is cool, but it’s scary.
The world needs you to play Bigger, to fully live the purpose you’re here to fulfill. The world needs people who are willing to say, “Let’s talk about that” or to say, “I believe we can do better!”
These are tough conversations to hold, because people will resist change, they will shrink back in fear, they will tell you stories about how everything is fine, so why rock the boat.
Courage is not the absence of fear – it is feeling the fear and taking action anyway.
Remember, Leadership is not about a title: Anyone can be a Leader who creates the space for a bigger conversation and invites others into it.
